Abstract

Insulin-dependent Diabetes (DID) is known to be associated with other autoimmune diseases, such as Chronic Lymphocytic: Thyroiditis. Different publications reveal the presence of positive anti-thyroid antibodies (AAT) in 8-40% of the DID (with predominance of females) vs. 0.5% in healthy children. In order to know the prevalence of the thyroid disease in our DID population -which is not repotted in the local literature- we studied 50 children with DID and 26 healthy controls from 3 different hospitals of Santiago, in which T4-TSH was performsd by RIA and AAT hemagglutination, physical examination and anthropometry. AAT over 1:20 was considered (+).
