Abstract
In this book chapter, we introduce and highlight the background of perovskites for photonic applications. The challenges and opportunities of two-dimensional (2D)/quasi-2D, three-dimensional, and perovskite nanocrystal are discussed. For example, metal halide perovskites have led to the development of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) due to their excellent optoelectronic properties such as a narrow emission line width, high absorption coefficient, readily tunable emission wavelengths covering ultraviolet to near-infrared, wide color gamut, and high charge carrier mobility. We overview the state-of-the-art LED, including the development of blue-light LED. Perovskite materials have many fascinating optical and electrical properties that make them promising general-purpose building blocks for light-emitting diode interconnects and functional units. Perovskite materials are expected to play an important role in improving performance and expanding the functions of LEDs.
