Abstract
14-Dehydro-19-nortestosterone and its 7α-methyl derivative were synthesized. The former was found to be approximately 100 and the latter 1000 times as active as testosterone in chick comb (local application) assays. In rat assays (subcutaneous), 14-dehydro-19-nortestosterone was approximately one-half as active as, or equal to testosterone in the ventral prostate or levator ani assays respectively, whereas its 7α-methyl derivative still retained its high potency (100 times as active as testosterone) in either type of assay.
