Abstract
AbstractStatic contrast in LCDs can be improved by using local dimming backlight techniques, but it is still orders of magnitude lower than that of OLED. However, glare in the human eye limits the visible contrast and suggests that a very high contrast is not required. In this paper we estimate how much contrast is actually required in a display and compare that with today's OLEDs and local dimming LCDs.
