Abstract

[1212008-99-5] C39H50Cl2F3N3O2Ru (MW 821.80) InChI = 1S/C27H38N2.C12H12F3NO2.2ClH.Ru/c1-18(2)22-11-9-12-23(19(3)4)26(22)28-15-16-29(17-28)27-24(20(5)6)13-10-14-25(27)21(7)8;1-7(2)18-10-5-4-9(6-8(10)3)16-11(17)12(13,14)15;;;/h9-14,18-21H,15-16H2,1-8H3;3-7H,1-2H3,(H,16,17);2*1H;/q;;;;+2/p-2 InChIKey = UKUOIAIRKSRWAN-UHFFFAOYSA-L (reagent used as catalyst in olefin metathesis reactions) Alternate name: M71-SIPr (commercial name). Physical Data: green microcrystalline solid. Highly bench stable and can be handled in the air. Solubility: generally used in dichloromethane, dichloroethane, and toluene but also in greener solvents such as ethyl acetate, dimethyl carbonate, and diethyl carbonate without any loss of activity. Limited solubility in cyclohexane, hexane, and pentane. Degassed or distilled solvents are not necessary but are recommended in order to avoid a premature degradation of the 16-electron ruthenium catalytic species during the reaction, notably in the case of transformations requiring prolonged heating. The reagent can also be used without solvent. Form Supplied in: Free-flowing, green microcrystals. Analysis of Reagent Purity: reagent purity can be controlled by 1H, 13C, 19F, 31P-NMR, and elemental analysis. Preparative method: The reagent is commercially available (Strem®, Sigma–Aldrich®, and Omega Cat System® for mg to multi-gram scale and Umicore(®) for Kg quantities). The commercial reagent is used in metathesis applications. Handling, storage, and precautions: The reagent can be easily handled in the air without precautions. The M71-SIPr complex must be stored in the dark under an argon or N2 atmosphere. Under these conditions, the reagent can be stored for a long period without any degradation. The reagent can also be stored at room temperature in 1M chlorinated solvents over 1 month without any degradation. Degradation of the complex can be easily identified by 1H NMR (Disappearance of the benzylidene proton at 16.44 ppm in acetone-d6). Irritating to eyes, respiratory system, and skin.
