METHODS One hundred and twenty-nine women with stress urinary incontinence underwent TVT procedure consecutively at our clinic between March 1999 and December 2000. Among 124 patients alive, 88 women were followed up (median 10.6 years) for an extensive interview retrospectively. The evaluation included a Sandvik questionnaire and other interview included complications, urinary symptoms, satisfaction, recommendation to other patients who have same symptoms and willingness to receive the same procedure. The cure was defined as no leakage on Sandvik questionnaire. The median follow-up period was 5.1 years (range, 9.8?1.6 years). RESULTS The mean age at operation was 55.4 (38–78) years, and symptom grade was I 40.9% (36/88), II 58.0% (51/88), III 1.1% (1/88). At the time of final contact, 79.5% (70/88) were cured, 18.2% (16/88) had improved and 2.2% (2/88) had failed on Sandvik questionnaire. Fig. 1 showed the evolution of cured patients after TVT procedure throughout more than 10 year follow-up. On Kaplan-Meier survival curve for the surgical outcome of TVT procedure, the cure rate at postoperative 1 year, 5 year and 10 year was represented by 96.6%, 84.1% and 79.5%, respectively. The satisfaction rate with surgery was 94.3 %. Ninety five percents patients wanted to recommend this procedure to other patients who have same symptoms, and 76.1% were willing to receive the same procedure if same symptoms recur. There was no significant difference in the cure rate according to VLPP (VLPP<60 vs VLPP≥60), MUCP (MUCP<40 vs MUCP≥40), BMI, and the SUI grade. Urgency and/or urgency incontinence was experienced by 53.4% (47/88) pre-operatively, but it disappeared in 46.8% (22/47) post-operatively. De novo urgency and/or urgency incontinence appeared in 24.4% (10/41) post-operatively. The late complications were de novo urgency (24.4%, 10/41) and frequent urinary infection (4.5%, 4/88). CONCLUSIONS The TVT procedure was effective and safe in the long term follow-up for more than 10 years. © 2011 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.FiguresReferencesRelatedDetails Volume 185Issue 4SApril 2011Page: e533 Advertisement Copyright & Permissions© 2011 by American Urological Association Education and Research, Inc.MetricsAuthor Information Ji-Yeon Han SEOUL, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Doejung Kim SEOUL, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Dae Heon Choi SEOUL, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Myung-Soo Choo SEOUL, Korea, Republic of More articles by this author Expand All Advertisement Advertisement PDF downloadLoading ...
