Abstract

Objective. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may be recommended for patients with non-malignant hematological disorders, such as thalassemia major. Conditioning regime is gonadotoxic and usually leads to ovarian failure. This is a review of four unplanned, spontaneous pregnancies in two women that had undergone HSCT for thalassemia major. Study design: We reviewed the antenatal case notes of the two women during their pregnancies, to identify points of concern and formulate a protocol with specific interventions that may be required during such a pregnancy.
