Abstract

An analysis of cavitating flow around an inducer is made using a singularity method. The cavity model with a wake can predict the performance degradation due to cavitation. New instability observed in experiment is analyzed by using this method. The propagation velocity ratio of this instability was about 0.5 and that was observed near the head break point. The result of the present analysis for this instability showed the same features, and it was clarified that the instability is caused by a positive slope of performance curve which is changed by cavity development. In addition, the head loss under alternate blade cavitation is also predicted in the steady flow analysis
