Abstract
This paper is a review of infant's cry acousticanalysis in Croatia. The purpose of all researchesis establishing acoustical characteristics of infant'scries as a help in diagnostic of voice disorders. Theresearch from 2000. analyzed two types of sevencries: very first cry (birth stimulus) and followingcontinues signal. Results of acoustic analysis indicatebetter cry characteristics in continues signal afterfirst cry characterized by noise and strong frequencyoscillations. The second research from 2001 shows differences in fundamental tone frequenciesbetween two days old girl with intracranial bleedingand healthy girl. The fundamental frequency ofthe healthy girl's cry was 47.8 Hz lower than thefundamental frequency of the sick girl. The mainpurpose of the third research from 2001. wasto follow acoustical voice characteristics of boyand girl to first word production. Different types ofvocalizations were analyzed from 2. to 11. monthof life (in five different time periods). The fourthresearch from 2006. showed results of acousticanalysis of voice of newborn babies as a function ofdiscrimination of specific voice features in prematureborn babies. Premature birth represents potentialrisk for overall infant development. Some differenceswere established: premature born babies showedsignificantly higher fundamental frequency (over600 Hz), larger fundamental frequency range, lesssound energy in the voice and more uneven soundrealization of cries than controls did. The severalvoice analysis programs were used in all researchesof this review (MDVP, Gram 2.3., EZ Voice Plus).
