Abstract

In dual-bell nozzles, the specific impulse is decreased near the transition between two operation modes. In this paper, two-dimensional axisymmetric flow simulations are performed to understand the cause of the decrease of specific impulse and to propose a method to minimize the decrease. It was found that the specific impulse during start up transient could be increased by providing a step at the inflection point of the nozzle geometry.
