Abstract

Discrete element simulations are performed to investigate the effect of pulsating gas velocity on the bed expansion and the bubble formation in two-dimensional pulsating fluidized beds. Simulations are performed using not only 2D model but also fully-3D model. The bed expansion in the case of pulsating gas injection becomes larger than that without pulsation. In the low pulsation frequency range, the bed expansion and the bubble diameter take the maximum value. Their values are independent of the pulsation frequency for f_p >4.0Hz. There is no significant difference between the macroscopic flow pattern obtained from 2D and 3D model.
