Abstract

Bridge members tend to be subjected to vibration caused by a breeze. For example, there is a case of truss bridge which was built in the central part of Honshu. Column diagonal members are used for this bridge. When this truss bridge received a breeze, the accident that each diagonal members resonance and a crack occurred in one part of gusset happened. For cause investigation, beat damping vibration was provided by a tapping examination of some diagonal members. This phenomenon happened so that diagonal members next to each other transmitted energy in turn. But the mechanism of this energy transmission has not solved clearly. Therefore we adopted a tuning fork as the model that had mechanism of energy exchange. We reproduced beat vibration by an experiment and analysis. We specified components of beat vibration. In addition, I considered a change of beat by shape changes of a tuning fork.
