Abstract

Mechanical characteristics of polymer materials are interest in a field of the chemical industry. There are requirements for observation of change of internal structure to stress. Many samples in various conditions of stress give us interested information analyzed by microscopic birefringence measurement. In this paper, we propose a birefringence measurement method for observation of internal structure and to analyze the relation between given stress and birefringence distribution. Birefringence distributions of gelatin such as retardance and azimuthal direction are shown in case of applied uniaxilal and biaxial stress as its demonstration.
