Abstract
We designed a composite structure gear, which consists of the rim and hub, in order to reduce the gear vibration and the gear noise by the friction damping between the rim and the hub. The rim and the hub of the composite structure gear were machined individually, and were built into a gear. Using the composite structure gear, we measured the vibration acceleration and the gear noise. Furthermore, the differential equations for the vibration in the gear drive were derived, and the vibration acceleration of the gear was calculated. Then, we discussed the availability of the friction damping in the gear body for the reduction of the gear vibration.
