Abstract

This chapter discusses the ideal specifications expected from hydraulic fluids. The majority of manufacturers of hydraulic equipment recommends certain performance standards for hydraulic fluids used in their components. The chapter lists some of the most important specifications to improve the workings of hydraulic fluids and hydraulic systems. It also mentions that certain specification requirements are seemingly incompatible, e.g., chemically active anti-wear additives and high thermal stability. The chapter also discusses the requirements for different hydraulic fluids. This information is provided in table format for better understanding and clarity. These are German specifications for industrial hydraulic fluids, Swedish standards for hydraulic oils, Denison specifications HF-O and HF-2 for anti-wear hydraulic oils, among others. Also, it presents the Vickers specification requirements for mobile and industrial equipment.
