Abstract
In this chapter, the focus will be on product development of traditional textile products. Two product categories will be considered: denim and sportswear products. These product categories were selected based on their huge market volumes as each category belongs to a multibillion-dollar industry worldwide. They also satisfy the basic performance characteristics of most traditional fibrous products, namely, durability, comfort, esthetic appeal, care or maintenance, and health or safety characteristics. In addition, these categories of products are currently undergoing a transition from traditional apparel product design to more function-focus apparels with ample opportunities for new product ideas and new design approaches. The line of discussion in this chapter will follow closely the concepts of product development and design conceptualization discussed in Chapters 3 to 63456.
