Abstract

In selecting infectious diseases for presentation in an atlas format, we have chosen to emphasize common and serious disorders in which visual findings tend to be prominent. Modes of presentation, patterns of clinical evolution, and spectra of severity are stressed. The following topics are covered: infectious exanthems, mumps, bacterial skin, and soft tissue infections, infectious lymphadenitis, bacterial bone, and joint infections, tuberculosis (TB), and congenital and perinatal infections, as well as multisystem inflammatory syndrome of children (MIS-C) associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus type-2 (SARS-CoV-2). This is designed to help practitioners familiarize themselves with their modes of presentation, clinical, and radiographic manifestations, assisting earlier recognition and diagnosis.
