Abstract

Anesthesiologists caring for infants and children undergoing thoracic surgery procedures face many challenges. A working knowledge of respiratory physiology and anatomy in infants and children is needed to plan and execute appropriate perioperative care. These issues will be addressed in this chapter as well as specific congenital and acquired intrathoracic lesions. Techniques for performing single-lung ventilation in infants and children are discussed in detail. Finally, use of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for perioperative evaluation and care related to thoracic surgery is also presented.
