Abstract

Abstract 1,2‐Dichlorobenzene is included on the List of Priority Substances to be assessed under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act. Relevant data were critically evaluated to assess the potential human health effects of exposure to 1, 2‐dichlorobenzene in the Canadian environment. Based on available data, 1, 2‐dichlorobenzene has been classified as “probably not carcinogenic to humans”. The estimated average daily intakes of 1, 2‐dichlorobenzene for various age groups in the general population in Canada are approximately 500 to 14,000 times less than the tolerable daily intake derived from oral studies in experimental animals.
