Abstract
To pilot a randomized, controlled clinical trial designed to assess the clinical efficacy and safety of a 3-day course of nitrofurantoin compared to 3-day course of ciprofloxacin for the treatment of acute uncomplicated cystitis in the emergency department (ED). Results from the pilot trial will be used in the design of a multi-institutional randomized, controlled trial designed to determine whether there is equivalency between 3-day, twice-daily courses of nitrofurantoin and ciprofloxacin in treating ED patients with acute uncomplicated cystitis.
