Abstract

Preventing new cases of HIV is a critical step to ending the HIV epidemic. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a highly effective but underutilized method of preventing HIV transmission. Emergency departments (EDs) are known to be an ideal setting to identify patients who are at-risk for HIV acquisiiton. Identifying, screening, and linking PrEP-eligible patients to PrEP providers from the ED could increase PrEP uptake among at-risk patient populations.
