Abstract
Objective. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of active and passive maternal tobacco smoking in a group of adolescents on the parameters of blood flow in the uterine arteries. Study design: The study was performed among 96 healthy pregnant women aged 16 to 22 years with normal outcome of pregnancy. A questionnaire assessing the nicotinic status and the concentration of the nicotine metabolite - cotinine in the serum of pregnant women was determined. The plasma was extracted of liquid – liquid technique, and then laboratory assays were made using high performance liquid chromatography with spectrophotometric detection using norephedrine as an internal standard.
