Abstract

Now it is well recognized that left ventricular (LV) systolic function is preserved or only minimally depressed in about 30% to 40% of patients of heart failure. Such a condition is named as diastolic heart failure (DHF), and its prevalence increases among females, aged population and hypertensive subjects. DHF may be diagnosed if patients meet all of the following three criteria: (1) presence of symptoms and signs of heart failure, (2) preserved or only minimally depressed LV systolic function (ejection fraction) and (3) the presence of LV diastolic dysfunction.
