Abstract

White adipose tissue (WAT) is no longer thought to be only an energy reservoir and, currently, its role in metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) and metabolic syndrome, is under extensive investigation. Egg white hydrolysate (EWH) has potential as an alternative method to manage metabolic conditions, improving both glucose tolerance and hypertension. Previously, we showed that feeding EWH for 6 weeks to insulin resistant rats increased insulin signalling (p-Akt) and PPARγ abundance, associated with reduced adipocyte size in WAT.
