Abstract
Detection of a plastic deformation area using electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) was investigated through discussion of a relationship among a contrast of interference fringes, transition of a target and average speckle size. A decrease in the contrast of interference fringes is about 20% on transition of average speckle size. When the transition is over average speckle size, the decrease of the contrast is gentle. On detection of plastic deformation, agreement of a direction of the transition and a direction of the deformation or the loading makes large allowable displacement.
