Abstract

College athletes consume alcohol at higher rates and experience more alcohol-related consequences than comparable non-athletes. Additionally, college freshman are at greater risk for alcohol-related problems than other students. This study sought to determine how alcohol consumption patterns of freshman athletes may be influenced by the perception of team, athletic department, and university alcohol policies.
