Abstract

In this chapter, we describe methods and theories related to security operations, including airport policing, private security officers in the aviation environment, and security functions of airport operations and other personnel. Aviation security is a multilayered system, but there are key individuals who are responsible for the day-to-day monitoring and response to threats. Within the aviation environment, security and law enforcement personnel must also recognize that “airports mean business,” which infers that there is an economic and public relations component, as well as a protection and response component.
