Abstract

The Scottish Higher Education Digital Library (SHEDL) is a strong brand in the publishing landscape, successfully negotiating access to over 3500 electronic journals for Scottish higher education institutions (HEIs), National Library of Scotland and National Museums Scotland. The fundamental basis of SHEDL is to provide content to all staff and students working in HEIs in Scotland. SHEDL has attempted to apply a similar model for publishers’ e-book output via a successfully run procurement framework. The SHEDL approach to the e-book journey has been innovative, with successes and challenges along the way as it collaboratively strives to provide quality academic e-book content in support of teaching and research.
