Abstract

Background: Phyllodes tumours are relatively uncommon fibroepithelial lesions of the breast, and are graded as benign, borderline and malignant. A particularly problematic diagnostic area is in distinguishing benign phyllodes from cellular fibroadenoma on limited core biopsy specimens. Furthermore, the grading of phyllodes tumour is often challenging even on resection specimens. Despite these difficulties, accurate diagnosis and grading of phyllodes tumour is clinically important, as the biological behaviour differs greatly between the three categories.
