Abstract

Continuous improvement is the key to maintaining a sustainable engineering system, both in terms of its reliability as well as continuity of use. The essential process cycle of continuous improvement is plan-do-check-act actions. Six sigma is a continuous improvement methodology that has been practiced for a decade. For in-service engineering systems, the six sigma methodology needs to be combined with the enterprise system to make the continuous improvement process more effective and efficient. The concept of enterprise transformation is introduced in this chapter to provide the link between support enterprise and the engineering system itself so that a continuous improvement process can be interweaved between the two systems’ lifecycles.
