Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effect of the Home Support Exercise Program (HSEP), developed by the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging (CCAA), on static balance of elderly women. Ten elderly women performed HSEP for 14 weeks and their ability to stand with their feet together was assessed. To compare the difference in static balance before and after home exercise, percentage difference was computed to indicate the amount of change and a paired t-test was conducted using SPSS 21.0. Statistical significance was set at α=.05 in all cases. The findings were as follows.BR After home exercise, the center of pressure, while standing with the feet together, was decreased in all of the distance, range, COP 95% confidence ellipse area, SD, and mean velocity. The findings show that HSEP improved static balance in elderly women, suggesting its usefulness in the prevention of falls.
