Abstract

Preservation of vision following periorbital trauma (POT) is highly dependent on rapid assessment, thorough examination, and accurate diagnosis. Basic ophthalmic assessment is an essential component of quality care and is significant in avoiding the sight-threatening consequences of POT. All Dental Core Trainees (DCT’s) working within Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) units should be competent in a basic ophthalmic assessment. Despite this, literature reports that almost half of the surveyed trainees in OMFS posts felt out of their depth.
