Abstract

The effect of mechanical and damping property of friction welded AZ31 magnesium alloy joint using micro fiction welding machine was investigated. Vibration testing system was using a direction of torsion. Microstructure of the weld interface showed fine grain structure than that of the base metal. The hardness of weld interface shows higher value than the base metal. Maximum tensile strength of welded joint showed 270 MPa became joint efficiency was approximately 98 % of base metal. Free vibration waveform of welded joint showed faster damping than that of the base metal. Damping property of welded joint had increased as the hardness of weld interface with decrease.
