Abstract

When the silicon (Si) is in the surrounding of high temperature and high partial pressure of oxygen the silicon surface is easy forming silicon dioxide (SiO2). Because Si02 forms the quantity of Si will lose in the Si alloy. Additionally, gold (Au) and Si will form the gas phases and oxide phases of Si(subscript (g)), Si2(subscript (g)), Si3(subscript (g)), SiO2(subscript (g)), Au(subscript (g)), SiO2(subscript (g)), and Au2O3(subscript s) during Au and Si were in the high temperature with high vacuum chamber. In this study, and the quantity losing of Au and Si were evaluated by the thermodynamic calculation during the Au-Si alloy was fabricated using the vacuum smelting process. The Au-Si alloys of hypoeutectic, eutectic, and hypoeutectic were made by the vacuum smelting process, the quantity losing of Au and Si was very low in this process. The microstructure of alloys were detected by optical microscopy (OM); as well as, the alloys melting point were detected by Differential Scanning Calorimetry Analyzer (DSC). The alloys composition and melting point correlates well with Au-Si phase diagram.
