Abstract

Objective: The assessment of right ventricular function is very important in the care of high risk fetuses, because fetal circulation is right ventricle dominant. To date, however, such assessment has been difficult and challenging when compared to the evaluation of left ventricular function. Recently, an easily-measured Doppler-derived index of left or right ventricular myocardial function, combining systolic and diastolic intervals was reported by Tei et al. The Tei index is considered to be a useful predictor of global cardiac function and is independent of both heart rate and ventricular geometry.
