Abstract

Youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) experience high rates of violence. We conducted a Youth Participatory Action Research study to better understand the structural and neighborhood factors that exacerbate or inhibit violence targeting YEH in San Francisco. YPAR is ideal to study structural factors, yet there is little research regarding the concrete adaptations required in order to prevent further harm to youth investigators. We describe the experiences of the young investigators and the lessons learned by the research team.
