Abstract

This chapter tries to emphasize the significant contribution of financial stimulation policy as a form of socioeconomic intervention in the area of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling in the Republic of Serbia. The research is based on a desk analysis among the companies in the area of WEEE recycling, where financial stimulation policy in the form of state incentives is being analyzed. Cost-benefit analysis is used as a method for justification financial stimulation policy in the Republic of Serbia as a part of the socioeconomic intervention for improving the quality of e-waste management system. Besides all the positive effects on the waste management system development and preventing burden on the environment, the incentive-oriented policy has also some disadvantages, and future scenario in this area is based on extended producer responsibility approach. This research contributes to a better understanding of the need for socioeconomic intervention in the recycling industry with special attention to the field of WEEE.
