Abstract

With LED and OLED taking over the general lighting market, and OLED being the most promising successor technology to LCD with whatever backlight source, both areas have begun to converge. This leads to completely new ways of building and controlling general lighting systems, but also to the possibility (and necessity) to rethink the currently mostly disjunct roles of general lighting and information displays. In the article, we will discuss some of these new possibilities, as well as some of the implications coming with those.
