Abstract

BACKGROUND CONTEXT: There is a paucity of data on the effects of low to moderate intensity aerobic exercise (AE) on mood profile in patients with lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP). Previous research by Sculco et al. demonstrated improved mood profile in lumbar spine patients with mixed diagnoses (ie, lumbosacral strain, HNP, spinal stenosis, etc.). Previous research has tended to concentrate on AE and resistance training in the prevention of low back pain for the general non-specific low back pain patient population.
