Abstract

A theoretical evaluation method for Pasternak foundation coefficient is presented using the twodimensional elasticity theory. A beam on the Pasternak elastic foundation is modeled as a contact problem of two materials with different elastic modulus. The Pasternak foundation model corresponds to perfect bounding of the interface of the two materials. Using the Airy's stress functions the stresses and displacements of the two materials are determined analytically. The Pasternak foundation coefficient is evaluated from these analytical results.
