Abstract

Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is an emerging therapy for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), particularly for those men who have larger prostate glands. Our center has developed one of the largest PAE programs, finding that this technology effectively reduces symptom burden, improves urodynamic parameters, and decreases prostate size. Although a number of prior studies have reported sexual function as an outcome measure following PAE, most have not yet focused explicitly on sexual function. This retrospective study was conducted to assess the effect of PAE on erectile dysfunction (ED) as assessed by the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire at 3 months following the procedure.
