Abstract

Study Objectives: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a complex public health problem with many health consequences. There is a paucity of research on IPV in patients presenting to emergency departments (EDs) in the developing world. We therefore sought to determine the prevalence of acute, ongoing, and lifetime IPV in patients presenting to the ED of the primary teaching hospital in a developing country. We also assessed the lifetime prevalence of perpetration of physical violence against a partner.
