Abstract

Statistics of polymer stretching dynamics in isotropic turbulence are studied using Brownian dynamics simulations of polymer chain model with the turbulence direct numerical simulation. It is found that although the polymer chain is almost coiled state when the Weissenberg number W_<i_η>〜1, it remains stretched state for W_<i_η> > 10 during longer time than the typical time scale of the velocity gradient fluctuation. Autocorrelation function of the end-to-end vector distance re of polymer chain has a maximum correlation time when W_<i_η> = 3, suggesting the existence of coilstretch (CS) transition around W_<i_η> = 3. We found that this feature is insensitive to the number of bead when using the parameter mapping proposed by Jin & Collins (2007).
