Abstract

In general, it is called that stiffness of grinding machines have to be settled as high as possible. While, since grinding operations are carried out in the finishing process, the quality of ground workpiece surface is required to be fine. In this study, it is investigated that the relationship between the stiffness of grinding system and the depth of damaged layers created in workpiece surfaces from the viewpoint to obtain fine surfaces without damaged layer. As the test results by a newly designed stiffness simulator, it is clarified that the depth of damaged layer has a tendency to be deeper with the increase of the stiffness of grinding system.
