Abstract

The essential factors to produce the iron rust are oxygen (O_2), existence of electrolytes such as water (H_2O) and hydrogen ion (H^+) generated in rust reaction process. Experiments have been carried out to examine the prevention mechanism of iron rust in water flow using the ion balls having the structure of polar crystal metals. The ion balls developed in the study make it possible to emit the e^- ion particles because they were composed of the polar crystal metals. The water temperature and water flow speed are 25 ℃ and approximately 10cm/s, respectively. The diameter of ion ball is about 8mm. The results obtained here show that the existence of ion balls in water flow makes it possible to disappear the rust on iron surface because e^- ion emitted from ion balls prohibits the occurrence of hydrogen ion (H^+) during rust reaction process. The variation of pH by immersing the ion balls in water flow is 7.2 to 7.8.
