Abstract
Alumina fiber reinforced alumina with the SiC interlayer was developed. The composite can heal the delimitation of the fiber/matrix interface by using the high temperature oxidation of the SiC interlayer. Healing at 1300 ℃, corresponding to the optimal self-healing temperature of SiC particles dispersing self-healing ceramics, gives rise to the large strength recovery as well as the alumina fiber degradation. Thus, the composite healed at 1300 ℃ was lost the large deformation ability. On the other hand, it was found that healing at 1000 ℃ for 100 h can lead to the complete strength recovery without alumina fiber degradation.
