Abstract

There are several researches estimating friction between road and automotive tires during driving. Elastic rubber structure of tires deforms beyond measurable range of conventional strain sensor. This study aims to fabricate large-strain sensor which exceeds conventional gauge in terms of strain range. Number of conventional wide range strain sensor uses carbon nanotubes(CNT) as either (i) CNT added elastic resin or (ii) CVD grown CNT array. Most of them are using resistivity change as sensor output-Either type has its disadvantages such as long delay in response or complicated and high cost fabrication process. The sensor in this study has inter-digital electrodes made of thin CNT layer which work as capacitor. The electrode pattern is printed on PDMS rubber sheet utilizing photo lithography which does not require any high cost process or advanced technology. Sensor fabricated in this way showed wide range of corresponding strain with short delay.
