Abstract

Characterization of focal liver masses is a recognized and accepted application for contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS). Since the first patient was scanned in 1998 at our institution, the service has expanded from a research tool to an integral component of our clinical practice. Patients with an incidental mass found on ultrasound are evaluated at the time of their initial examination and no longer return for diagnostic CT or MR scan. Clinical referrals for characterization of an unknown liver mass include young asymptomatic females suspected to have FNH or adenoma, as well as a wide variety of further patients with both benign and malignant liver disease.
