Abstract

Many artists in the media draw inspiration from popular culture; new media art in turn contributes a lot to the blooming of popular culture. Since website design covers different medium including text, picture, animation, game, music and film, it could be the pioneer of new media art. The industrial websites provide the latest information of food, clothing, living, transportation, education and entertainment. They can be regarded as the first heralds of fashion. This study aims to collect and analyze the data from 500 renowned international industrial websites, using sites from www.netdriver.net as the main source. By using content analysis, I evaluate these websites in two dimensions: creative code and popular culture. New media arts use diverse creative codes, such as culture, nature, life, space, portrait, sexual, fairy tales, graffiti, trademark and digital. They also transmit diverse elements in popular cultures, such as exoticism, the earth, LOHAS(lifestyles of health and sustainability), exhibition, idol, love, play, punk, fashion and Hi-Tech. Those who are interested could use these data as reference to improve their new media arts. Only when you catch the creative code of fashion, can you be a la mode.
