Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive activation plan for promoting elderly sports in pursuit of elderly sports policy development by the new government and health promotion in the era of longevity as part of stable settlement of the people’s rights to sports. For this purpose, literature review was performed to analyze senior citizens’ health and participation in sport activities and legislations and policies for elderly sports and present a comprehensive plan for promoting elderly sports in the era of healthy longevity. First, it is necessary to develop and provide a customized sports and physical activity program appropriate for senior citizens’ characteristics and health status. Second, it is necessary to include elderly sports in the governmental sports policies, make elderly sports policies, and give financial support systematically and consistently. Third, it is necessary to establish more departments of elderly sports and relevant ones in colleges and develop a practical curriculum aimed at generating professionals in elderly sports. Fourth, it is necessary to spread the rights to enjoy sports for senior citizens and reinforce relevant PR. Fifth, it is necessary to make continuous development by revising relevant legislations systematically and efficiently, pursuing the policies, and giving financial support through establishment of the organization presiding over elderly sports welfare in promoting health, sports, and physical activity for senior citizens.
